Making Best-in-Class Even Better
In partnership with Power TakeOff and Chicago Public Schools (CPS), the Emerging Technologies Team launched a Real-Time Virtual Commissioning (VCx) pilot in late 2020. The project quantifies the impacts of integrating real-time Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) usage data into our current AESP award-winning VCx offering at select schools, helping CPS find energy-saving improvements for their building operations. Over 4 GWh of savings are expected to be generated from the first half of the pilot, which included more than 25 schools. When the pilot is complete, more than 50 locations will have undergone real-time VCx, allowing CPS to save money and energy while providing a better indoor environment for its students.

As part of the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program, our Emerging Technologies initiative explores innovative ways to better serve our customers. Impacts of Passive House Standard Examined
Recently, in partnership with LUCHA, we studied the energy savings and non-energy benefits of the Passive House standard in affordable new construction multi-family buildings. DHPs Versus Status Quo: The Results Are In
We recently completed a project that tested high-performance, cold-climate mini-split ductless heat pumps (DHPs) for income eligible customers living in multi-family buildings in ComEd’s service territory. The results of the study indicate there is energy savings potential for DHPs, but barriers still exist when it comes to the integration of this technology into income eligible energy efficiency programs—especially surrounding cost effectiveness.
